The Little Prince, by Antoine De Saint-Exupéry

The Little Prince talks about a pilot whose airplane is crashed on the desert. There, he meets a little boy—the Little Prince—who tells him his experiences by visiting various kinds of planets—including the Earth. During the journey, the Little Prince encounters with many characters of adults, such as a king, a narcissistic man, a drunkard, a businessman, a lamplighter, and an elderly geographer.

He begins to start his journey after he decided to leave his leaving place, a tiny planet—almost like asteroid—which only have two active volcanoes, one inactive volcano, some baobabs he has to pull out everytime for its not grow too big, and a rose. Apparently, the Little Prince falls in love with her, and so does the rose. Yet, as time goes by, he feels that the rose only take advantanges from him. That’s why he decided to leave his planet, to visit another planet and meet various characteristics of creature outside. Including the Earth, and the pilot.

Furthermore, the pilot, whose airplane can’t be fixed anymore, looks for some way to survive his life on the desert. The existance of the Little Prince sort of annoys him at first, but slowly, he knew that this extraordinary little boy brings him a lot of new sights about life through his journey story.

A very famous quote that this novel has goes: “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

By the single sentence itself, the message of the whole novel conveyed there, that it is important to look beneath the surface to truly understand something, since a lot of people fail to do so—as they are only interested in the face-value of something.
